Dotty Discipline

So I just have to document this event today and I don't really have a better place to do it. Bear with me. Two nights ago Cory and I wanted to check out a new mexican restaurant that opened near our home and we started talking about it on the way home. Dotty (who had not had a nap that day, got excited and really really wanted to go to the restaurant.
But at said restaurant she proceeded to have a meltdown. She didn't get a pink ball from the vending machine, she didn't want anything they offered and she was just pretty much despondent from fatigue. So we took her home and fed her tortellini instead. She was VERY upset and kept screaming. At home we explained to her that we couldn't go to the restaurant because she had been screaming and acting out and that she can only go to restaurants when she is a good girl. She ate her tortellini and went straight to bed.
Yesterday, on the way home, we mentioned 'mexican food' - purposely steering clear of the word RESTAURANT as to not cause a stir, but Dot caught on anyway. She said, "I want to go to the restaurant. I'm not going to be screaming". We were surprised that she had remembered the reason we couldn't go before and so we decided to give it a try. She was an angel. She ate nachos, rice and beans and drank some water and didn't worry too much about the ball vending machine. We gave her a big kiss at the end and bought her some gummie bears. What a big girl.

She is such a big girl. It is great when kids surprise you with wwhat they understand. I love that she got to go to the restaurant when she felt better. I think it is so sad when kids really want to do something but can't because they are just so tired they can't stop crying. They must just feel so out of control when that happens. Such a good girl and such good parents!
